I've been Matched betting for almost a year and have made a nice profit but that has seriously reduced as I've been gubbed by all my best accounts. I considered moving to Betfair trading but don't have the time to put in the work and Mike's article has made me believe I made the right decision. I recently stopped my OddsMonkey subscription to have a go at the Each Way Sniper auto betting system as Matched Betting had become very time consuming for little profit. Time will tell if I've made the right decision.

I've been matching for many years now and can honestly say that it is the only method I have ever found to make easy, regular profits... I taught my son how to do it when he went to uni and it kept him in beer and takeaways for the entire 3 years... Mike has said many times that matchers will eventually be rumbled by the bookies... this is very true, although some bookies will gub you faster than others... When I was restricted by both William Hill and Paddy Power in the same week, my initial knee jerk reaction was to explore the trading avenue... I spent money on Caan Berry's books and videos and, whilst it is clear that there is money to be made, the effort required far outweighs the potential profits... at least in the short term anyway... I have nearly 50 original bookie accounts and I've been restricted by about half of them over the years... So I spent a morning researching new bookies and found to my surprise that there was another £500 available in welcome offers... It seems that new bookies are starting up on a weekly basis and, even with the restricted accounts, I have never had a problem turning around £300 to £500 a month... Its true that it is a bit more difficult nowadays, but you've just got to get your head down and do as many offers as you can... If all else fails, just put all your remaining bookie accounts into Mike's Odds Software and spend an hour a day creaming off the arbs from the top of the list... I only do the ones that will make at least £0.50p... It takes moments to do and you can easily make a tenner a day with minimal effort... You'll make even more if you put in the time and it doesn't require any bookie bonuses to succeed...
Regarding the Betfair Trading, I concluded I'd be better off working 9 hours a week in a bar... Guaranteed income of £300+ a month (even at minimum wage) and far less stress... Id also get to meet people rather than living the solitary life of a trader...

From my experience as an out and out racing fan if you are thinking of going into trading you have to know the sport inside out, people just come into this and assume the markets just move for no reason, there are reasons, there are many reasons , this is not just a money market it is a sports market, horses are backed in or layed out for all sorts of factors, form, going, handicap, jockey, trainer front runner, held up runner , strong starter, strong finisher , course and distance winner , number of professional tips, racing post comment, timeform comments , plus theres a lot more, without actually understanding any of this why oh why are you risking your money ? What is the point of putting money into the market when you have no idea if the price is too high low or indeed if the horse is at the right price, going in for one tick scalps will end in losing more than you win, the trick is to predict the correct sp, thats the name of the game.

I have done both. Have been matched betting for over 3 years, and my profit from that is almost £30,000 (almost £2,500 made recently during the World Cup).
Bookies don't seem to give out many free bets these days. Most of my profit comes from price boosts. Now gubbed by a lot of bookies, I feel the income is dwindling.

I have been trying to learn to trade the horses for 18 months. Lost over £1,000 in that time. It has taken time, but I have begun to recognise certain trends on the favourite on certain days, and at certain odds. Rules and discipline have to be followed closely.
I will continue trading with small stakes because I can see the potential in it.

Two things that I have is patience and determination. Trading is not for everyone, whereas with matched betting, any mug could do it (the mugs aren't interested by the way!).

Very informative read well written by an expert in his field. I recently read a book “Betfair Trading Made Simple” by Caan Berry. This book tried to give you a good introduction to trading but it left me thinking that Matched Betting was still very much my preference. I do sports bets in a very disciplined and controlled manner and I like the way I am able to adjust the profit i.e Underlay to generate a bigger profit when the bet wins. My personal opinion is that MB will always be around to ensure the bookies stay competitive.

There is still plenty of offers that are easy Mark. The Champions League final offers from last week were the best I've seen.

World Cup offers are also looking very lucrative so far.

You can turn your nose up at small free bets, however your profit on turn over will likely be lower with trading unless you are betting hundreds.

Can't comment for trading having not tried it properly, but would agree with Andy above, I think matched betting has a limited lifespan,. for reasons other than the gubbing issue from bookies. No one seems to have mentioned the time you now have to spend for the smallest returns I started in 2012, then £25 plus free bet offers were plentiful and lucrative., the qualifying bets could be simple (No time consuming ACCA's to qualify) and attached T&C's less complicated, Now you have to jump through hoops, for the merest £5 free bets and often spend more time chasing bookie via live chats trying to obtain what their offers promise. I'm gonna give trading a try with guidance from professionals.
